TuneIn Radio, OOTunes, IBlink Radio, Spotify, Downcast and Podcast, Youtube, UPlayer,
VLC Player for my audio and vedio needs.
Various Newspapers and news apps, Umano, Ted, CNETGlobal, Insterpaper, Pocket,
Flipboard etc etc for my news and tech and everything interesting needs.
Various weather apps, various bookstore apps, various local providers apps for various
needs.
Um, i have about 500 apps all together, and about 60 to 80 active apps at a time, so, it is
really hard to list out all of my apps... I also do a lot of apps testing for accessibility so...
oh, i missed out bunch of social media apps such as facebook, messenger, twitter,
instagram, pinterest, etc etc...
When i looked at my various foulders for various category, it states that i have 10 books
apps, 13 entertainment apps, 6 navigation&gps apps, 14 lifestyle apps, and so on and on.
that is not even include those main apps that i use daily, that are on my home screen.
haha.
Now I'm not only tired, I'm just, just, well just.
I understand most people have 100 and up as far as apps go.
I don't think I'd have time during the day to do anything else but pet my phone if I had all that stuff. Lol
I have a similar situation to JoAnne, I do a lot of both beta testing and also do a lot of general testing. I prefer OOTunes to Tunein, and love CideWorld. iMove is great for braille support, and KNFB reader is the best OCR app you can get. I have an app called sports scores, for, guess what? Sports scores, and frequenly use Google voice search over Siri, because Siri kinda blows. GrubHub is also good, though dangerous for fat asses like me.
I have Slacker Radio too, but unfortunately it has been inaccessible with VoiceOver for several months. Supposedly, the developers are working on a fix, but they also said that over a month ago, when I sent them an email. If more people write to support@slacker.com, maybe they will take this more seriously. Also, if anyone knows any workarounds for using Sacker, please share. I have Pandora, but I don't like it nearly as much as I liked Slacker. I also have TuneIn Radio, iBlink Radio, YouPlayer (to play YouTube videos), Twitterrific, Light Detector, quite a few word games, GoodReads, and a few others. I can't imagine having 500 apps on my iPhone.
I have various apps mainly for reading books, sports scores and listening to
radio/watching TV. The only really different app I have to those listed above is a
VPN, as some of the more narrow minded killjoys whose content I consume try
to geoblock me, even though I pay for it. BTW to save on radio apps, it is
possible to manually add streams to TuneIn that may have been removed from
the TuneIn directory or never appeared, you need the URL for the stream
though.
GrubHub eh? um must check that out.
I like the easy use of TuneIn, but for radio database, nothing can win over OOTunes. However, i do see some improvements with TuneIn lately, what with the frequent updates that they have these days.
My view is that, if you just have an iphone for listen to music, doing phone calls, and texting, that is the waste of hard cash. I can text and made calls with any of the budget phone, or even with my old nokia 6120 that is sitting here collecting dust. And yes, just for anyone information, i'm on my phone/pad most of the time compare to the time i spend on the computer. After all, it is what portability and mobile computing is all about. And i think, i'll spend 0.25% of my phone/pad time on texting or calling someone, but spending the rest of some 99% of the time doing other productive things.
Yeesh. i don't know how i'd keep track of much less run all those apps at one shot. i mean. holy shit.
I tried digit eye eyes light for barcode scanning, but well, i put my cd on the back of the c phone and mm move it all around and nothing. so hmmm.
I have various games, not that I seem to have much time to play them so there's only a few,
Facebook, ootunes, 3AW (my local talk station), skype, iBlink radio, KNFB reader (still haven't mastered how to use it even though it seems everyone else has), audioboom, Winceminstee (spelt that wrong sorry) chimes - a chiming clock, blindsquare, Navigon, Be My Eyes, - they're the main things.
ok, is it spelled ootunes? cause I've looked for it and couldn't find it in the past and kinda forgot about it for a while .
Yes, it spell as ootunes, or OOTunes
I have a lot of the apps that others have mentioned, but here are a few. Blackboard, used to look up my grades for my college classes, read announcements from instructors, etc, etc. Calm, a really good app for meditation, or just relaxing in general. Hatchy, a game where you can take care of a virtual pet. If I can think of more, I'll post them.
I have the following apps on my phone:
Twitterrific, DiceWorld, Skype, FaceBook, NfB Newsline, BossJock studio, Blindsquare, be my Eyes, BARD mobile, around Me, amazon, access Note, Hanging free (for playing hangman with friends), Heytell, google maps, kindle, KNFB Reader, Light detector, facebook messenger, Nature space, looktell money reader, Zello, Voice Dream reader, youtube, trivia crack, tap tap see, swarm, read2Go, and nook
ok most of these i know what is, but can you tell me what the following are?
BossJock studio, access Note, Light detector, Nature space, Zello (Zello is like the zone on iOS or something?) , Voice Dream reader (isn't this for the blind to read books , and the same guy makes a writer too?) , swarm, read2Go?
amazon? (didn't know that was accessible.)
I tried to listen to a podcast on TapTap see, but could not understand it at all. the guys voice was waaaaay too fast for me.
Anything above 30 and i have real trouble. even 25 (which i keep it at , gives me a lil difficulty at times.)
I can answer your question about bossjock studio; It allows you to broadcast to a server, the same as internet broadcasting.
hmm. how advanced is it?
Read to go as an app that lets you read books from bookshare. I think voice dream reader does this as well. And swarm is an app that lets you check in to places.
This Swype Radio: How is it different from TuneIn? The thing I don't like about TuneIn is that I can't pick up local sporting events if the stations are not licensed to broadcast the game over the Internet. The NBA is the worst offender at this.
John, I haven't used it but I've heard it being used and it sounds very professional.
There's an entry on applevis.com; just do a search for bossjock studeo
Uncle leo, you might be better off with EXPN, or OOTunes. But, if the station itself are not allow to bbroadcast it through the internet radio, it might be the case with the station, rather than the app itself.
Radio, i try to answer your questions about apps.
access Note = another similar app for 'note' or 'evernote'. But it should be fully accessible, as the name suggest, it is also purpose build for access on mind. It allows you to take notes and all that stuff.
Light detector = an app for for you to detect light, either you have the light turn on or off. i have no experience on that app, can't answer any specific question beyond that.
Zellow, Heytel... = walky talky app. Zello pretty much act the same as the zellow software that one may have to connect to the talk server. It is similar to vintrilo, or teamtalk. Zone got a channel on zello, but i don't know anything more than that, as i don't use it.
Voice Dream Reader = an accessible reading app for all people. It is not specificly for the blind, but it is fully accessible for voice over and braille user. It can reads in most format, beside DRM (Digital Right Management) protected books. I comes with a free voice, but there are about 50 voices or more for you to purchase as an add on.
Read2Go is an app that can reads bookshare books, and other format, as well as it is also a DAISY Player. personally i use voice dream reader over Read2Go. I don't see the point of paying $20 to do the similar thing that $10 or less can do. And, every now and then, voice dream reader will come on sales for $5 instead. It is indeed the same developer that develop voice dream writer, but it is for different purpposes.
Swamp = app for you to check in on places, then broadcast it to social media, e.g. twitter and facebook
Tap tap see = app for you to reckonize pictures, graphics, images etc.
Amazon = app for Amazon. The latest update, which release early this week fix all of the voiceover problem. It become accessible again.
HTH
Hmmm it sounds like I need to maybe use my smartphone for more than I have been using it for so far.
I've never done anything like checkens.
how are notes different than a reminder ?
I don't really read a lot, I mean if I do it is mostly audio books like from BARD, so I'm not sure the reading ones would be for me.
SwypeRadio is different in that it lets you just use your location based serveces to get the local stations.
as for sports not being aloud on radio streams, that has nothing to do with what app you are using. OoTunes, Tunein, SwypeRadio (it doesn't matter). if the NBA wont stream their stuff online, its because the NBA told the stations they are not aloud to stream.
Amazon (now that's one I gotta get.) I don't think I'd use any walky talky bassed services. I know zero people that use that stuff.
do any of you guys use BlindSquare or Navigon? wha'ts the differences? I mean, I know they are both GPS bassed services, but why would one choose one over the other ?
KNFB reader. um, I don't scan anything so I guess something like that wouldn't be worth the price ?
since that's all it does right, is OCR? I mean, you c cant do barcodes with that thing, which is the one thing I'd do more than anything else.
I started reading this board but the over welming number of apps gave me a headache. I saw most of the book and music apps already here. I use the amazon app for shopping, and well diapers.com, but i'm sure most of you don't have to worry about that. it's vo accessible though... i use you version and bible.is as my main bible reading apps. I like youversion better. I can book mark and switch versions easily and can read with voice over, or choose a version that has an audio version. I also can access the plans. I use netflix, pbs kids for my daughter though that's more a guess and push, but i've seen worse. I like the accessibility of amazon instant vidio more than netflix for streaming vidio. I also have fun with the amazon cloud player. Mostly for stand up comedy I admit. I have been enjoying that google hang outs is much more accessible. It is like having face time, but with the ability to conference, and the ability to go cross platform. I have a lot of friends with droids. These are ones I don't think were already covered at any rate. file browser is also good if you have a home drive or server you'd like to access from your home. and dropvox is a recording app like voice memos but it auto uploads to dropbox. I'f found that handy a few times.
i have the pod cast app google plus google voice twitter and kik a messanger
Radio, Notes is a place for you to take notes, to drop down little things, big things, anything and everything. It act as a note pad, if you like. Of course, i don't think it has any formating features and stuff like that. I usually use note for bits and pieces, if someone tell me an address, or a phone number, etc etc.
Reminder, as the name suggest, is for you to set reminder for things. It is kind of the simplify version of calender if you like, and a more advance option for Alarm, or Clock. With reminder, it allows you to set reminder to remind you with something, and you can add notes, addresses, all sorts of different things there. You can set it to remind you at the time of the event, or 15, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, 1 and 2 days before. You can also set it so that it will remind you on whatever interval you set it. Say, radio meet john at every second tuesday of the month, from 9AM to 10AM, with first reminder set for 2 days before, and second reminder set for 2 hours before the meeting.
HTH
oh cool, thanks!
I knew about reminders, that comes in useful.
Well I just got the Toan Energy tuner that is recommended from AppleVis. Chromatic tuner for instruments. My ear's out of practice, so while I can temper an instrument - tune it with itself - I always start out too sharp or too flat. This tuner works nice with VoiceOver at least for a average guy like me. It's got a metronome and other things I haven't used yet though.
hi guys. 1 of the apps which I use which sort off replaces slacker another words almost has the same content its aol radio. you can have a free or paid type of accounts.
Flyingbird, thank you very much for the tip about AOL Radio. It's much more accessible than the current version of Slacker, so I can listen to a much wider variety of stations. Since it's powered by Slacker, the stations are a lot better than those of rival services like Pandora. Of course, it doesn't have all of the specialty stations that Slacker has, but with the current version of the Slacker app I couldn't access many of them anyway.
Have you tried the latest update of Slacker? I haven't yet, but may see how good it is.
A lot of the apps I use have already been mentioned, but I especially like periscope, evermusic pro which lets you turn your dropbox and other external storage devices in to a player, sayplay, dark sky which is a descriptive weather app, accuradio, blindfold blackjack, and the usual twitter and fb apps.
I've heard of parascope, but don't understand how it works.
I just redownloaded the Slacker Radio app to try out the latest update, but it still seems pretty inaccessible. The only problem I'm having with AOL Radio is that whenever I try to sign in or upgrade to Radio Plus, the app crashes. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, is there a workaround? I know it has nothing to do with VoiceOver because I had my sighted mother try it with VoiceOver off, and the same thing happened.
periscope is a personal broadcasting app. It follows twitter so the people u follow can broadcast live and u can follow them and also broadcast yourself
Another app I just added to my listed is called posted. You can use it to track packages, and it supports all major carriers, very useable. There is a free version called posted light, but for $1.99, you get features such as being able to track unlimited numbers of packages and push notifications. With the free version, you can only track three packages at a time.
I have a few more apps that have not been mentioned here. Weather radio by wdt, very useful weather app, gives push notifcations for storms and such, and the cool thing is, you don't have to unock the phone. You'll hear a beep and it says, for example, a tornado watch is in effect. For tracking packages, I use an app called shp rack, much better than yhe one I mentyioned in my last post. Once your forward an email or add the tracking number to the app, it gives you push notifications when the status of your package changes. I have also started using kayak, which is a travel app. You can book flights and all that travel site stuff, but this app also creates a trip plan when you forward emails containing trip information, and one of my favorite features, you can create a packing list to make sure you don't forget anything.
wow...*headache* so....many....apps!
I have baard, access world a magazine, be my eyes though it isn't working right now for some reason, taptapsy, darksky, Netflix, zello and others though I can't think of what.
I know this has probly not been mintion but apple music which has gone cross platform is what I use on my IPhone and now also on my android phone as well. I can add tracks and see them on both side its sweet!. Oh, the blind folder games, theres more but people already posted them here. Oh, Team extreme is how I keep up with the "covers face" Dallas cowboys and texens.
Let's see...facebook, messenger, twitterific, swarm, youtube, pandora, look
tel money reader, KNFB reader, dice world, trivia crack, true or false, bank of
america
omg, I have so many... I have dice world, trivia crack, blindfold barnyard, A
Blind Legend, nephew's games... not sure what they are, true or false,
pandora, youtube, skype, twitter, mesenger, facebook, learning ally, spotify...
and I don't know what else. I need to stop with the milions of apps! :d
I have many which have already been mentioned, but I also have garage band, quickvoice - bit better than voice memos - and several really great magnification apps, such as SuperVision Plus, Mag Light, Visor and one more really high powered one which is slipping my mind.
One question for Downcast users, what advantages does Downcast over the native podcast app?
